28/3/2017 Serious play. One of the many tools we use (both internally and with clients) is Lego. Not only is it a great physical doodling tool while the brain is busy, it's an important play and creativity tool. Lego helps us build and explain our ideas, talk about ideas that are otherwise challenging to express, work together to figure out the best way to support our clients to work in new ways, and even do our strategic planning. We also have a great deal of fun with it, and with other types of play. Playing is important for all of us. It helps us create non-judgemental spaces in which to explore new ideas, collaborate, get to know and work with each other in new ways, to find ways of doing old things in new ways and to do new things in effective ways. All of that, and it promotes relaxation and laughter, releasing endorphins and making us feel good about ourselves. Playing shouldn't just be something that happens outside of our working hours. We need it, our organisations need it, and our communities need it to be a part of our work as well. Let's all take play seriously! www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-laughter-may-be-the-best-pain-medicine/ AuthorAt Double Farley, Melita is our Learning Director. Comments are closed.
